A resilient garden design for a contemporary new build
A recent project based on the north coast of Cornwall, challenged me to to design a garden for a contemporary new-build property set against the dramatic backdrop of an exposed sand dune landscape.
The client’s brief called for a low-maintenance planting scheme that would soften the sharp lines of the architectural design while introducing texture and colour throughout the year.
The selected design broke the space into a series of carefully considered zones, featuring structured planting beds, pebble-dressed areas, and sculptural elements. A palette of resilient plant species was curated to thrive in the coastal environment, offering a harmonious blend of lime greens, purples, blues, and pinks. Architectural plant forms ensure visual interest across all seasons, combining beauty with practicality in this striking coastal setting.
